蘭亭序：Preface to the Poems of the Orchid Pavilion Gathering

Shorin は今年、念願だった、ある書の分野の勉強を、始めることになりました。　

王羲之(おうぎし　303-361） の書　「蘭亭序」　（らんていじょ）　の　臨書　です。　

書道になじみのない方も、「王羲之(おうぎし）」　という名前は、ご存知かもしれません。 「書聖」　と称される中国東晋時代( (265-420) の書家で、その「蘭亭序」　は、行書の最高傑作といわれ、世界で最も有名な書作品のひとつであり、現在でも書を学ぶ人の必修帖です。　

「臨書」　というのは、見て写し取る練習のことなのですが、それにはやはり、作品や時代背景の理解が必要で、技術と共にそれらを学びながらの勉強になります。　

お稽古を始めた頃からの念願が叶い、とても嬉しいです。　写真は数日前に届いた、真新しい、その教科書です。　　

おりしも今年は、日本はまさに王羲之の当たり年で、東京では現在、　東京国立博物館 - トーハク　にて 特別展　「書聖　王羲之」　が開催中です。　ご興味のある方は、是非！　(^^)/

I am finally starting studying some area of calligraphy which I wished for a long time. 　Copy "RANTEI", or "Preface to the Poems Composed at the Orchid Pavilion" by Wang Xizhi.

You might have heard Wang Xizhi, referred to as the Sage of Calligraphy, who lived during the Jin Dynasty (265–420). His work, "Preface to the Poems Composed at the Orchid Pavilion" is known as masterpiece of semi-cursive style of calligraphy. It is one of the most world-famous calligraphy works and is the compulsory study for calligraphy learners still now.

"Copying" is just to write the same or making duplicate, but it requires understanding of the works and historical background as well. I need to learn them as well as brushing up techniques.

I am so very happy as I have been hoping to try this some day, since I started calligraphy. The picture is the brand new textbook which came to me a few days ago.
