あじさい祭り : Hydrangea Fest

余事ながら、「あじさい」　を　「紫陽花」　と書くのは、実は違います。　実は違うというか、日本でのはじまりが誤りで、その後そのまま使われ、今では正解になっています。

「紫陽花」　というこの魅力的な名は、そもそも唐の詩人 白居易が、別の紫色の花につけたもので、それを、平安時代の日本の学者　源順（みなもとのしたごう）が、日本原産の　「あじさい」　にこの字を使い、いわば誤用されたのがきっかけだそうです。
　　
ちなみに、白居易が思っていた別の紫の花というのは、”ライラック”　だという説があるらしく　(爆)　 まあ、なるほどです。　以前、「こんな梅雨時に咲く花に、なんで　"陽" の字が入ってるんだ。」　と、不思議がっていたら、人が教えてくれました。　　　

それはさておき、東京にもアジサイの名所がいくつかあります。　その一つ、文京区にある白山神社で　"あじさい祭り" なる催しをやっているというので、見に行ってきました。

あじさい、豊作です。　（とは、言いません＠） We have soooo many flowers.

まあ！　こんな名前の品種が...? Wow! ”初恋" means "First Love"

It is not really important but KANJI for AJISAI, 紫陽花　is actually inappropriate. To be correct, it is not actually inappropriate but it started as an error and it is now generally used as correct wording with no problem.

紫陽花 was originally named by Chinese poet Bo Juyi Po Ch-i for another plant which has purple flowers, and then Japanese HEIAN era scholar MINAMOTO NO SHITAGO used this word for AJISAI which is Japan-origin. It was the start of the misuse.

According to a theory the plant with purple flower that Bo Juyi Po Ch-i had in mind was "lilac" (LOL) that sounds pretty reasonable to me. 　Long ago, I was wondering why this flower name has "陽" (sunshine) in it despite this blooms in really rainy season and somebody told me this story.

Anyway there are some places famous for beautiful Hydrange here in Tokyo as well. I attended "Hydrange Fest" at one of them, HAKUSAN JINJA, Bunkyo-ku.
